One of Marilyn’s close friends is a middle-school teacher in the Bronx. For Privacy sake we'll call her Ms. XX. Ms. XX had her students create get-well cards for Marilyn. Here are some bits and pieces from the letters. We found them amusing. Some of our favorite parts are in bold. It's fair to say perhaps tact has not quite been learned yet for some, and it’s the thought and effort that counts….
"I just letting you no that my grandmother passed from kemo. I hope you be ok.”
"Get well soon best results!”
"Marilyn- I really do hope you get better soon. I really mean that from the bottom of my heart. Also I just want you to know that don’t thing your surgery is good to be bad. Just think of ice cream or something you really love. Think of that the hole time and the surgery will be over before you know it. So your surgery won’t hurt at all. Just follow these rules and it will all be over. Do well.”
"Dear Marilyn- I know how you feel know. I hope you feel better. Keep fighting. I know that Ms. XX wants you to be with her forever. (bff) I know what you going through so next week you need to fight with your kimo therapy. I am going to see if we could do a bake sale to donate money to you. Your help is on the way.”
"Dear Marilyn- I wish you the very best on kimo. Ms. XX cares about you very much she asked use to write this but I’m writing this letter out the goodness out of my heart. This letter is really hard for me to write because my aunt died because of it. I loved her so much and I still do, I wish that I got a chance to say goodbye but she died a fighter and nobody believed more than her that shes going to make it. But yet we didn’t catch the cancer on time and she died. It was the worst thing that happened to my family. I’m hear to tell you that you gonna make it and me and class XX believes in you.”
"Dear Marilyn- I know that I don’t know you but there are lots of people in this world that don’t get a 2nd chance you did & I hope you live life to the fullest. I’m making you this b/c my grandmother die of cancer it was a horrible time for us but I hope you life for a long time. Your young live, love, life, do wat you wanna do.”
